Continuation of SHP Coverage for Recent Graduates

Important! If you are going on a university-approved leave of absence prior to your graduation date, your continuation of coverage options are determined by the effective date of your leave and not your graduation term. Please refer to the following pages for more information:

If you are enrolled in academic credits through the end of your last term prior to graduating, your options are as follows:

May Graduates

  • If you do nothing, your SHP coverage will end June 30th.
  • You may also purchase a continuation of SHP coverage for three months into the next plan year (through September 30th).
    • Application opens June 1st.
    • The deadline to complete the application and pay for this continuation of coverage is August 31st.

August Graduates with summer enrollment credits

You will be automatically enrolled in SHP coverage for July and August of the new plan year, and bursar billed the 2024-2025 premium for these two months.

  • If you do nothing, your SHP coverage will end August 31st.
  • You may also purchase a continuation of SHP coverage for a further three months (through November 30th).
    • Application opens after July 1st.
    • The deadline to request and pay for this continuation is October 31st.

August Graduates with NO summer enrollment credits

  • If you do nothing, your coverage will end June 30th.
  • You may also purchase a continuation of SHP coverage for three months into the next plan year (through September 30th).
    • Application opens June 1st.
    • The deadline to complete the application and pay for this continuation of coverage is August 31st.

December Graduates

  • If you do nothing, your coverage will end December 31st.
  • You may also purchase a continuation of SHP coverage for an additional three months (through March 31st).
    • Application opens after December 1st.
    • The deadline to complete the application and pay for this continuation of coverage is March 1st.
