The following information is for students enrolled in classes or programs through Cornell's School of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions.
Cornell's health insurance requirements apply only to degree-seeking students taking 12 or more credits in on-campus fall, spring, or Winter Session classes.
The requirements do NOT apply to:
- Summer Session and Summer College students (please visit our Summer Students page)
- Students taking fewer than 12 credits
- Cornell employees
If the requirements above apply to you ...
You will be automatically enrolled in Cornell’s Student Health Plan (SHP), unless you are already covered by a Cornell student health plan or Student Health Fee.
Eligible domestic students who can demonstrate that they have adequate health insurance may apply to waive their SHP enrollment (international students are required to stay enrolled in SHP). Students in Ithaca whose waiver applications are accepted pay a Student Health Fee to support access to care at Cornell Health.
